 Etosha National Park

There are 3 campsite inside the park and we have spent a few days at each of them. It's expensive to stay at the rest camps but we prefer to stay there rather than having to drive into the park on a daily basis from the camps near the entrance gates. In 2013 this is the only park that we booked in advance (while we were in Windhoek) and we were able to change some of the dates/camps easily once in the Park as it was fairly quiet just before the South African school holidays in June. July to September are very busy in Etosha as they get lots of European travellers then so on our 2014 visit we booked everything well ahead.

Etosha . 1 - Okaukuejo Rest Camp

Etosha . Okaukuejo Rest Camp

 Last visited:    August 2014

 Location:   S19.18161 E15.91743

Ablutions:   Not many blocks considering the size of the campsite. Clean. Hot water.

Electric:    Yes.

Sites:  Most sites have a braai and a cold tap (drinking water) nearby. Some also have a table. Very few have any shade.   This is the most popular campsite in the park and can get very full. You're given a site number when you book in on arrival but you may be able to change it if you see another site that you prefer. We like the sites furthest from the ablutions (numbers 28 to 36) as you could see animals passing by next to the fence and they were away from the large safari trucks.

Other:   In the dry season the waterhole has a constant procession of anmals visiting it and at night it's floodlit and you're almost guaranteed to see black rhino. In the evening black-backed jackal are always around so make sure that you don't leave anything out. There's a pool, bar, restaurant and shop.
