Campsites. South Africa - KwaZulu-Natal.

Many of the campsites that we've stayed at in KwaZulu-Natal are Emzemvelo KZN Wildlife Resorts. I've just written about the ones that we stayed at in the last few years.

Below the map is information about them, listed in alphabetical order. You can click on the places on the map or scroll down the page.

You should be able to find out about current prices on the KZN Wildlife website which has been improved and allows you to check availability and book online.

Chelmsford Dam Nature Reserve. December 2014.

Location: 20km south of Newcastle.

Website: www.kznwildlife.com/accomodation/resorts/chelmsford.html

Ablutions: Clean but getting rather run down. Hot water.

Electric: Yes.

Sites:
Sandford Campsite: 20 marked pitches next to the dam. Some have shade.
Loekop Campsite: Marked pitches but this site is very run down, most of the electric points didn't work and the ablutions were in a bad state.

Other: The Reserve get busy at weekends and during the school holidays as it's popular for fishing. The road to Leokop is tar but after that it's dirt to the Sandford campsite and can get muddy after rain and there might be ruts and potholes. You can drive around the reserve which has zebra, springbok, wildebeest, oribi and jackal. We reallly like this site and always use it if we're heading north, however we try to avoid staying on a friday or saturday.
