Stoney Ridge 4x4 Driving Course 2009.

Just over 18 months ago we went to Stoney Ridge for a 4x4 course covering levels 1, 2 and 3. We decided that the Levels 4 and 5 course would be useful for us as it covered vehicle recovery as well as getting through difficult ground.

Stoney Ridge is in a lovely location with a boma overlooking the Bloukransriver, accommodation is in tents on wooden platforms in the shady trees.

We arrived on Friday afternoon - we were the first to get there - and spent an hour or so chatting to John Rich (who runs the courses). During the afternoon and evening more course participants turned up, most staying in the tented accomodation but a few hardy souls were camping.

Altogether there were 8 vehicles and 9 drivers booked on the course (Kev and I both driving our truck). They were:

Barry (Jeep Wrangler) accompanied by his wife Valda.
Christo (Toyota Hilux) accompanied by his wife Zelda
Dave (Toyota Landcruiser) accompanied by his wife Margot and daughter Christine.
Hardus ((Ford Ranger) accompanied by his son Johan.
Hein (Mitsubishi Colt).
Mark (Landrover Defender).
Richard (Hyundui Terracan) accompanied by his wife Heather.

Many thanks to Johan and Valda who let me have lots of photos, some of which I've used on these page.

During the evening we soon got to know the other people on the course. John and his wife, Sue, are both excellent cooks and we ate very well throughout our stay.
