Tanzania 2006 - Lake Manyara

We flew from Zanzibar to Arusha in NW Tanzania- it's the main centre for Safari trips. I'd booked a 6 day safari with Tropical Trails. This is a small company but very helpful and willing to accomodate our requirements. We would certainly recommend them.

Here we are with our guide/driver, Maravitt and the cook, Ema (Emanuel) with the vehicle we had for our 6 day safari. First stop was at Lake Manyara.

We travelled from Arusha to Twiga Camp, just outside Lake Manyara National Park. We went for a walk outside the camp site. This guy was determined to get me to change some Sterling coins he had acquired for Tanzanian currency (Shillings).

We visited Lake Manyara National Park in the afternoon. Once out onto the open land around the lake there was plenty of game. This hippo was on its way to the lake but I managed to get a photo before it disappeared into the water.

There was a huge number of birds on and around the lake, including storks, pelicans, egrets and cormorants.

We spent quite a bit of time watching this enchanting family group...
