Namibia, July / August 2014 - Tirasberg, Hamerstein Lodge, and the Namib-Naukluft Park, Southern Section - Sesriem Canyon and Sossusvlei.

1. Little Hunters Rest Camp, Tirasberg.

We stayed at this campsite last year and loved it so I booked a night here on our way to Sesriem. Di and David thought it was wonderful, David said that he could happily have stayed for a week!

Watching the sun set over the mountains.

The following morning we had a walk down the valley for a couple of hours. We were lucky enough to see a bat-eared fox laying out in the open. We watched it (and it watched us) for 10 to 15 minutes as we gradually moved slowly towards it until it eventually disappeared down its burrow. A little later we saw a pair of pygmy falcons on the lookout for prey near their home in a huge sociable weavers nest.

Bat-eared fox.

Pygmy falcon.

2. Hamerstein Lodge.

This is another place that we stopped at last year and we thought that Di & David would enjoy the 'Wild Cats Walk' that you can take.

A passing shower over the nearby hills.

One of a pair of cheetah.

There are several pairs of caracal at the lodge.

3. Sesriem Canyon.

In August there's just a few pools of stagnant water so you can walk in the bottom of the Canyon.

Di and David making down to the bottom of the canyon. The new steps make most of it easy to negotiate.

Amazing to think that when it rains this canyon can have water well over your heads!

4. Sossusvlei

Another 'must see' for anyone visiting Namibia! We were up an hour before dawn and got to Sossusvlei in time to see the sun rise over the dunes.

Diana decided to slide down one of the dunes....

...not so easy getting up again though!

She had to traverse the slope and then make her way back to us.

It's easy to take great shots in the early morning light!

We found a nice quiet spot for breakfast surrounded by beautiful dunes.

This gymnogene was in the tree next to us.

These cape sparrows liked our bruised kiwi fruit......

....and so did the local population of striped mice.

1.Luderitz . We stopped at Aus for a couple of nights and visited Kolmanskop, Ludertiz, Diaz Point and the Garub Wild Horses.

2. Namib-Naukluft South. We had a night at Little Hunters Camp in the Tirasberg, did a wild cat walk at Hamerstein Lodge, explored Sesriem Canyon and went to see the sunrise at Sossusvlei.

3. Namib-Naukluft North. We stopped at Rostock Ritz, stayed 2 nights in the Namib-Naukluft Park Northern Section and did a Living Desert Tour.

4. Skeleton Coast. We visited the Cape Cross Seal Colony and drove up The Skeleton Coast.

5. Twefelfontein. We spent a morning at Twefelfontein Rock Art Site and then visited the Organ Pipes.

6. Etosha National Park. We stayed at Okaukuejo Camp for 2 nights then had a night at Halali Camp.
