Brussels, December 2016

In early December we spent a weekend in Brussels with my sister, Diana, and her husband, David.

The Christmas Markets were on so it was very busy but enjoyable. We took the Eurostar from St Pancreas to Brussels - only 3 hours.

Kevin and I have been to Brussels several times so know our way around fairly well - especially some of the bars!

It was very cold during the day but mostly sunny so with several layers of clothing on we were fine.

We stayed at the Metropole Hotel. The room rate was good at under 100 Euros per night for a room but the weekend breakfast cost of 28 Euros per person was ridiculous. We went out to a local cafe and got coffee and croissants for a few Euros.

The Grand Place is the main square in Brussels and during the evening some 'Sound and Light' shows took place. The Christmas tree in the centre of the square was huge.

On Saturday we spent the morning wandering around the street markets

IN the afternoon we visited th Horta Museum. Kevin and I have been before and were disappointed that nowadays you are not allowed to take photos inside the house.

In the eveing, after an excellent meal, we wandered around the street markets again and had a go on the big wheel.

The market stalls on St Catherine's Place from the top of the wheel.

On Sunday morning we took the Metro out to Cinquantenaire Park, which houses both the Military and Automobile Museums which are both worth a visit.

L'arc de triomphe, Cinquantenaire Park.

The Motor Musuem.
