Richmond

We had plenty of braais with family and friends during our stay in Richmond, several at our house but also at other places.

Family braai with Pat and Colin and all the family.

A braai with some friends at Ian and Amelias.

Our great-niece, Veronica got married to Matt in March. The weather was perfect and we all had a wonderful day. There are 4 generation in the family now.

Ron's dad died a few years ago so she was walked down the first part of the aisle by her brothers, Jason and Mark, and then by her Grandad.

Leaving the church.

The Richmond MOTHs had a couple of events where they provided the food so, as usual, we went along to help. The Canoe Event was the first time they'd used Beaulieu Dam, they loved it and have said they'll use it again.

The start of the canoe race.

The entrants had to cover a 200m section carrying their canoes.

Di and David had been to Richmond a couple of times before but that was before we moved to Benjamin Street so they were keen to see our house. We had several meals outside in the evening.

Paula was away at Splashy Fen Music Festival so Di and I went round each morning to groom the horses and a couple of times went out on a short ride - as it was over 40 years since Di had ridden!!

We took Di and David to the Pietermaritzburg Botanic Gardens and enjoyed a morning walk around the grounds.

We then visited Butterflies for Africa (also in Pietermaritzburg) which is an enclosed building with colourful butterflies - almost impossible to get a decent photo of the flying and, of course, when they stop they fold their wings up!

There was a wall cabinet which had pupae hanging in rows and we were lucky enough to see a butterfly emerging from a pupa.

The butterfly emerging from the pupa.

A few minutes later it was much bigger. We were told that it could be several hours before the wings are strong enough for it to fly.

After Di & David left and just before we returned to the UK we spent a few days at Happy Wanderers Resort on the South Coast with Geoff and Paula. We enjoyed several lovely walks along the beach.

Kevin was the only one brave enough to have a swim.
